Lead Poisoning Prevention Week

October 23-29, 2016 is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW), as designated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The theme for this year’s NLPPW, Lead Free Kids for a Healthy Future, aims to reduce childhood exposure to lead by raising community awareness through educational activities.

HHS and CDC encourage you to take steps in preventing lead exposure by eliminating lead-based paint in your home if the house was built before 1978. Additionally, they encourage you to get your home and children tested for lead, and learn about drinking water. By taking action and understanding the facts, you can avert the dire consequences of lead poisoning.

Spread the word about lead poisoning and be part of the campaign to help eliminate the most preventable environmental disease among young children.

Those who want to participate in NLPPW activities and spread awareness can access a variety of outreach materials and resources on the official website.
